It’s no secret, I spend a lot of my free time in Ulta. I think the girls see my car drive up and probably think, “Well, it looks like we’re going to hit our sales goal today.” Just kidding. Kind of. Ok, probably not kidding but don’t judge me.
Anyway, I have spent a lot of time (and money) finding my favorite brands and products in the makeup world. I don’t know if it’s the packaging or all the pretty colors or the promise of “perfect skin” that just sucks me in. Let’s be honest, it all sucks me in. Sigh.
Ok, let’s get to the good stuff… My makeup favorites!
I have 2 very favorite foundations at the moment. One is Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Foundation, which is amazing for oily skin with good coverage yet still feels light. My second favorite is Chanel’s Vitalumiere Aqua; again great coverage, looks like natural skin and feels oh so light.
My newest fave to this set is the BareSkin Serum Concealer by BareMinerals. Holy moly. Silky smooth, covers the bags under my eyes like a champ and doubles as a high lighter for the rest of the face.
I set everything with Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Smooth Operator Finishing Powder. My face makeup goes on at 6:30 AM and with this as my setting powder, it will last until about 6:30 PM before it starts to show signs of oiliness. It’s the oily girls best friend, I tell ya.
I’ve been using MAC Paint Pots as an eyeshadow base for years. I’ve tried Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion and it has nothing on MAC. It doesn’t even begin to compare. I like to choose something close to my skin color so I usually use Bare Study or Soft Ochre. You can wear with eye shadow or alone. Your eye shadow will last well into the next morning.
Next up I line my top lid with one of the many Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eyeliners I have in my arsenal. These are the BEST. Hands down. They come in a billion different colors and they just glide on smoothly yet stay all day. I hate eyeliner’s that tug at my eye lid. No thanks. My favorite colors are Mushroom, Hustle, Zero, Rockstar and Mildew. They have 40 colors to choose from so I’m sure you’ll find a favorite!
After my eyes are shadowed and lined, it’s time for the fun stuff – mascara! I’ve tried about 100 so far in my lifetime seeing as it’s the one thing I cant live without. Right now I’m using Too Faced Better Than Sex. If you’re looking for high impact, are-they-real-eye lashes, then this is the stuff for you! I got one of my best friends hooked on it and we haven’t looked back since. It’s definitely worth a try!
I personally think every gal can benefit from bronzer. It brightens up the face and just gives it an extra glow. One of my favorites is Nars Laguna. It’s the perfect bronzer for the fall and winter when my skin is a bit more pale.
After the bronzer is applied, I always feel like I need just a tad more color. I pop on Bobbi Brown’s blush in Pale Pink just to wake my face up a bit. I know, I know, it looks totally crazy and electric in the pan but once it’s on it’s such a light, soft pink color. Don’t be fooled, my friends!
I am a sucker for lip gloss. I just cant say no. It is my drug of choice and let me tell you, it’s addicting (and expensive!). The two formulas I love the most are the ones that aren’t sticky and don’t make my lips feel crumbly. For those reasons, I am in love with Chanel Glossimer in Sea Shell (87). I have been wearing it since I was a senior in high school and it’s just so.. lovely. It gives the perfect nude/pink/shimmer color and I cry every time I run out of it. I’m currently in the stages of scraping the sides and bottom of the tube because it’s practically running on empty. Que the tears. The price isn’t exactly budget friendly, but its seriously my favorite! I cant stress that enough. I just need to get a raise at work so I can stockpile these suckers. So. Good.
The next formula is BareMinerals Marvelous Moxie. It’s close to the Chanel but a bit more sticky. Womp womp womp. But it’s also almost half the price… So there’s a plus. It comes in a good variety of shades so you’re bound to find one you like. And they smell and taste good too!
Right now is the perfect time of year to try out new makeup! Why you ask? Makeup lines are coming out with their holiday kits and its the best time to get bang for your buck! You can get palette’s, lip gloss galore and numerous other kits often at discounted prices than you would normally pay for a full size palette or a normal sized lip gloss. It’s great way to try out new things and the packaging is oh so adorable. You can check out all of Ulta’s gift sets HERE and Sephora’s gift sets HERE.
I will be doing a post in the next couple of weeks of my favorite gift sets and the ones I think are worth the money! Stay tuned!
